Ebay Sale - Posting to USA - Please Help

I've recently sold an item via Ebay to a person living in USA.  They accepted my offer but then were unable to pay and the item showed as not being able to be shipped to them despite GSP being active.  I spoke to Ebay and they said that it was because it was listed under a certain category, not all categories are covered for GSP.  They said I could get round this by sending the buyer an invoice which I plan on doing.

In the meantime, I need to know how to send this to USA - it's worth £245.00 and it's basically an item of clothing with some wires in that connect to a battery to light it up when switched on.  I've agreed with the buyer that I will ship without the battery to make it easier. There's a couple of other small bits included but nothing I suspect that will prevent it getting there without being destroyed.

Does anyone here have any experience of shipping items to USA and can advise, it sounds so mind-blowingly difficult and I don't know where to start.  If you would like a link to the listing so you can see what I've sold I'm happy to share it via PM.
