PC for ~£800

Hi everyone :hello:,

I am looking to buy a PC over the next few months, with a budget of around £800. I am aware that come the new year prices may be cut in the sales, but in the meantime I am looking to get a rough idea of what I can get for my money.

I would be using this for university work, as well as some gaming (not very much though), video editing, and general word processing/ internet surfing etc.

With prices low at the moment would it be best to opt for a quad core processor?

I would appreciate any recommendations you may have.

Thanks!

Robin.

how serious are you about the video editing, its one of the few things in the world that actually makes use of multiple cores.

if you hadnt mentioned that i would have just said to get a laptop like a vostro 1700, a core 2 duo and 8600gt graphics card is more than enough for most people and should start at £550 odds.

if you really are serious about video editing be awair it still woulnt be in reall time but if you get a desktop with quad core and 8800gt card you should be able to play most games except crysilis who nobody can play on high. fyi there are 24" lcds for £200 these days so that should provide plenty of spexe to edit vids on.

Go to Dell via Quidco and use eValue code D015012.

Upgrade the monitor to the 22" flat panel and the graphics to the 256mb card.......just about £600 so you've got another £200 to spend on other extras.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

I have just brought a new pc from pcspecialist - you can choose each exactly what you want and then they build it for you. i would definatly recommend looking on their site even if you do just get a quote
