Currys Ebay Store Issue

I purchased a Beko washer dryer from Currys Ebay Store in April 2021. In August, the machine started making a loud noise when spinning and an engineer told me the concrete block was broken. I contacted Currys but they say they cannot find the order because I do not have an order number starting with EBY or CUR. I have also contacted Ebay who say Currys should provide this number. Beko are only interested in offering a repair through Domestic and General who will charge. I am hoping my engineer friend can locate the weighting block, but wondered if anyone else has had this issue when buying through Currys Ebay store.

  •  I'm sorry to hear about your problem with the Beko washer dryer. It sounds like you have a faulty concrete counterweight that is causing the machine to vibrate excessively. This can happen due to loose bolts, overloading, or bad design¹².

According to some web sources, Currys Ebay store orders should have an order number starting with EBY³⁶. If you do not have this number, you may have trouble getting a refund or replacement from Currys. You can try to contact them through their [online tracker](^8^) or their [Ebay store page](^5^) and provide them with your Ebay order number, item number, and date of purchase. You can also check your Ebay account for any messages from Currys that may contain the EBY number.

Alternatively, you can try to fix the concrete block yourself or with the help of your engineer friend. You will need to remove the top cover of the machine and locate the concrete block on the front of the tub. You will also need to remove the bolts holding the block and replace them with new ones if they are damaged⁴. You can find some videos and guides on how to do this online, such as [this one](^1^). However, this may void your warranty and you should do it at your own risk.

I hope this information helps you resolve your issue. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me. 😊

    Hello OP
Your eBay purchase history should currently go back to the start of 2021 (once we tick over 2024 the option to view 2021 will disappear), and there should be a 13 digit eBay order number and you should still have a view order details link to see an overview of what you purchased, from whom and what the delivery address was.
Grab a screenshot and this should be sufficient as proof of purchase (Curry's desires to have an order number starting with EBY or CUR isn't really your problem :) ). Then Google "CEO email" and search that site for Currys, use the email address there to contact a higher level of customer service who will hopefully be more helpful.
As it has been longer than 6 months burden of proof (that the machine wasn't manufactured to a satisfactory quality to remain durable for an appropriate amount of time) falls upon yourself.
If Currys request you show such you'd need to get an independent inspection to show that the problem is the machine by finding a local appliance repair place (or using the guy you mentioned) to see if they'll inspect the machine and put something in writing. Ideally you'd want the cause but at the very least it should, on the balance of probability (i.e more rather than less, doesn't have to be 100% proof) state that the problem wasn't caused by user error/misuse.
You'd then go back to Currys with this and request a remedy (repair or replacement).
If they still refuse to help you'd send a letter before action (templates on Google), if no joy after that you'd have to look at small claims.
As the machine is over 6 months old you'd be looking at a deduction for use, with a washing machine this is typically lifespan minus the time you've owned it, possibly with the variable of how large your household is to determine with use is perhaps less or more than average.
As an alternative if the appliance repair guy says they can fix it for a sum you are happy with that is appropriate considering the current value of the machine you can also put that suggestion to Currys. If it gets to the point Currys are only offering a refund, you are also entitled to a price reduction (i.e the cost of repair) and keep to keep the machine rather than a return for a refund, all depends what you what really. :)
