Brother HL-2130 Printer Problem

This laser printer shows an error as it starts printing. Turning the printer on all is normal - all four lights are lit and then just the green light shows. On starting printing it whirrs away for a couple of seconds and then the error light appears. I don't think it gets as far as successfully picking up a sheet of paper. I've opened everything up to check for paper stuck in it but all looks OK.
Is this terminal do you think or is there anything I could try? If I need a new machine can anyone recommend a cheapish black and whitr laser printer to replace it?

Replace all the paper with something fresh from a ream and ensure its standard A4 paper 80gsm. If the existing paper is damp for whatever reason (condensation, cold room, too thick) the printer may have trouble feeding it.If you get other lights beside the error light that's usually a clue as to where the problem is.See from page 53 in the user guide, in particular Page 57, as depends on what the error light is doing flash wise as to where the problem is:

Thanks Neil. The error light is on steadily. The document you kindly linked to suggests that a steady error light relates to paper jams or open covers. I've just tried feeding an individual sheet in which works and prints fine, so I think it is related to the printer failing to pick up a sheet to print.I will try fresh paper as you suggest. I also wondered if the mechanism that grabs a sheet of paper needs cleaning. What could one use for that?

Most paper jams are caused by tiny scraps of paper , usually somewhere hard to spot and clear!
Does the trays spring work OK? Could be worn rollers or cogs too, I use paintbrushes, damp cloths, dry cloths and a hoover to clean dust, paper fibres etc
