Hi all
Thanks for these answers. I can see now what the issue is with the credit score and am in the process of addressing that.
cymruchris - I can also see how you read what I wrote about 'This got withdrawn a couple of years ago' - I was referring to the commission-free overseas txns perk being withdrawn, not the card itself. I still have the card but only use it for going abroad / buying big stuff and pay it off at the end of the month in which I use it; the issue was about NOW having to pay commission on overseas purchases / ATM withdrawals.
That was why I wanted a new card that didn't charge for this when I shortly go abroad!0 -
Whereabouts are you travelling? If it is the USA then a Chase Debit card would be good and is only a soft credit check.
Kroo Bank Debit card is soft credit check and is fee free everywhere abroad.
118Money credit card is fee free (can be subprime)
Zopa credit card is fx fee free
Swap Barclaycard to Reward card in App - fx fee free also
Buy a Currency Prepaid card.
Now you've checked your credit reports (hopefully not paid to check them!) it should give you the understanding of declines.
Free brokers to check CRA's;
Clearscore - Equifax
Credit Karma - Transunion
MSE Credit Club - Experian
You can also do Statutory (free online) credit report requests, bare in mind Experian is the only one to send a code in the post which means it will take a week or so to access your STAT Report unlike Equifax/Transunion which is pretty instant. If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.
Secured/Unsecured loans x 1
Credit Cards x 8 (total limit £55,050)
Creation FS Retail Account x 1
Creation Credit Sale 0% x 1 = £112.50pm x 20 mths
0% Overdraft x 1 (£0 / £250)
Mortgage Outstanding - £137,707.00 (Payment 13/360)
Total Debt = £7,400 (0%APR) @ £100pm - Stoozing0 -

That was why I wanted a new card that didn't charge for this when I shortly go abroad!Yes - I did think that it was killed off - however it's still pretty much the same answer - it's likely your lack of overall active credit history across multiple accounts that's probably holding you back. Just remember it's not an issue with the score - it's an issue with the history. Don't focus on the score. It'll move. Nobody sees it. Only you. Try eligibility checkers across lots of providers and see who likely says 'Yes' - if there are several - find the best package of perks and apply for just one. Use that for your monthly grocery shopping and pay in full - and keep using the Barclaycard as well.As has been mentioned - in your Barclaycard app - there's a option to 'change cards' - and will show your available options. If the 'reward' card is there - change to that one for fee-free cash withdrawals overseas and no fx fees.0 -
