Any ideas cheapest supplier?
My mum is 85, her fixed price energy has just come to its end with shell energy. I'm looking for the best deal currently for gas and electric, she's a low user in a three bedroom home. I thought prices were settling down but it looks like they're still raking in as much money as they possibly can on the back of the war. Fix price deals seem to be more expensive than variable rate at the moment which implies they think there might be another rise

The SVT is expected to rise at the next review in January. That's why fixes are slightly more expensive than basic tariff. Not much difference between suppliers, either. You pays your money and you take your choice.0

Check to see if there are any special tariffs/winter allowance discounts for pensioners. I know Eon is doing one for those in receipt of benefits, low income (under £19k) and/or considered vulnerable. Basically it's half price SVT for use over the winter.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. For the avoidance of doubt, the maximum price that suppliers can charge to domestic customers is set by Ofgem. Yes, energy producers are undoubtedly still making profits but prices are driven solely by Global demand and supply. Gas wholesale prices in the UK have risen over the last couple of days due to events in Israel and the closure of an Israeli gas field. If gas wholesale prices remain high, this will be factored into the January capped price.

Similarly the WHD (if applicable - although Eon's offer seems more based on that in reality than actual income) will be through whomever a person's supplier was in late August (I've not read the documents to find the actual date yet).
As Shell are moving to Octopus and if there's no other supplier offering anything particularly attractive, she could consider switching to them now using a referral code which would give her and the referrer £50 credit each.1
