Registration missing from the printed ticket

Hi All. We received a fixed charge notice today in the post - stating that no valid parking session detected.
Basically my other half went for shopping and parked the car in this particular car park. The driver then went to pay for the car park as its a pay and display car park and you have to enter your car reg. The driver inserted the coins and tried entering the car reg but the screen was not showing anything when the driver was typing. The driver was trying to work out what to do and then the ticket was printed automatically without the reg number - which the driver assumed is fine and displayed in the car. Luckily we still have the parking ticket from that day!

Do you think we can appeal on the ground that the driver paid and there was something wrong with the machine that time .Also, the fact that a ticket was printed from the machine even though a reg plate was not entered? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This particular company is IPC accredited company :S

Which PPC? Napier perhaps?
What was the reason given on the PCN for it being issued?
Was a NTD left on the windscreen?
Plan A is always for the keeper to complain to the landowner and heir MP.
Plan B is for the keeper to appeal using the template in blue text from the sticky Announcement for NEWBIES and include a copy of the ticket. You could add that there was no breach of Ts and Cs since the whole parking period was paid for.
You could also add that the IPC has stated that the use of typo proof machines is a moral duty, and the operator has failed in this duty.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.

The IPC's statement about typo proof machines is here.

Hi and thank you so much for the reply
Yes it is Napier.
The reason written on the letter is no valid parking session detected.
NTD was not left on the windscreen but we received a letter through post.
It will be option B as its a generic car park and not for nay particular shop/s.0 -
Plan A is Plan A for a reason. Success at this stage means you never have to worry about it again. Highlight the pdt machine failure and the operator's failure to comply with the IPC's requirements in your complaints.
Where did the alleged event occur? It may have cropped up here before. Often a retail park's landowner or managing agent info can be found on the main sign at the entrance listing the businesses present.
The keeper should complain to the manager/CEO of any shop visited at the material time. Some have the power to get a PCN cancelled. They may also be able to put pressure on the landowner/land agent since they will lose custom due to the actions of the PPC. I certainly wouldn't go back if I had received an unfair charge, and I would make sure the retail managers knew the reason why.
