Agria Pet Insurance renewal £419.19

Hi all,
We've just had our insurance renewal for an annual amount of £419.19. This feels high, indeed it's an increase on last year's £365 which I hadn't quibbled but when looking at the average price of pet insurance I see prices of approx £100-150 a year. Am I payout outrageously over the odds here?
Our dog is only 3, not a particular special breed (Irish Doodle) and no ongoing health issues to date (touch wood).

Thats only a bit above 10%. Mines gone up 27% and the same circumstances (age of dog and no claim history) apply.
Really dont know where you have seen that average, even when I got the pooch 3 years ago I was paying nearly 300 quid for the year, spoke to people in the park who are paying eye watering amounts for their pets.1 -

Not sure where you are seeing that as the average price of pet insurance, most sources give a lot higher but it's very dependent on both where you live and what breed you have.
Also remember that some people are buying budget policies which only payout for a short time on chronic conditions which will pull down the average premium but cannot be compared to a full fat life time policy0 -
That's useful to know. I was Googling "average pet insurance UK" to see but who knows how accurate the sources were, maybe not at all :-)0

It also depends whether what your googling is for life cover because the cheaper ones aren’t in that skews the average amount as well.
i’m currently close to £100 a month for my 13 year-old cross breed dog.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Just his coconuts and then he had a minor procedure to remove grass seed from his paw in July.0 -

Wee Dog got eye ulcer. Caught just in time, but cost over £1K in vet bill & drugs over 6 weeks. The threat was if they did not work was looking at a £3 to £4K operation at a specialist.
5 year old dog, no pervious claims & paying just over £200 a year. Turns out that there was a £1K limit on a claim, less excess £99. (my fault for not checking🤬)
So take any policies & really read the policy docs. Pet insurance is not as simple as it seems. Cheap = very limited cover/payout & restrictions going forward.
I have now learnt why the high monthly payments are there...
To get the level of cover for the worst case was over £100 a month. If you wanted lifetime & no exclusions for previous conditions.. Even worse, but too late for that now.
Decided this year, that Ins could swing & we will put money aside to cover anything.Life in the slow lane0
