Worried about renting crisis

I currently pay £600PCM living in West Yorkshire, but my tenancy runs out in a few months and I'm worried that my landlord might decide to sell up and therefore kick me out
I could afford a rental increase of approx £200 without too much trouble.
But if I get kicked out I will probably struggle to find anywhere else, going by what I've heard about massive waiting lists for viewings.
Im also hoping to apply for a job in York, and saw there was NOTHING available in the whole city for less than £1000PCM on Rightmove
I would ideally buy my own place but I only have 5K savings so I doubt I'd be able to get a deposit that cheap
Does anyone have any advice on what I can do?

Speak to your landlord well in advance to ask their intentions. If they're planning to sell, it gives you a bit more time to look around. If they're not looking to sell, don't mention what you can afford, it's unlikely the landlord will put a £600 rent up by £200. If you have been a good tenant then it is also more likely that the landlord will want to carry on renting.3

My tenancy is up in around 5 months, do you think it's worth me asking now if I can renew it for another 12 months? or would we need to wait until it runs out first?
I think last time my letting agent contacted me around 2–3 months before the tenancy ran out to ask if I wanted to renew it0 -
I think your biggest problem will be how big your landlords mortgage may be. If he has done what many did & have an interest only one you could have a problem. If there isn't much left outstanding then you could well be okay. It could well be down to his stage of life. If he is getting on he may not want the aggravation. Put it another way, what do you know about him.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do?What happens at the end of the fixed term is covered in the How to Rent booklet you’ll have received at the start of your tenancy.2 -

I've had a look at sold properties on https://www.home.co.uk/ and searched for my postcode, my property doesn't appear to be listed... might that mean that my landlord bought this property a long time ago and has possibly paid off the mortgage?0 -

This happened to me once before because the landlord wanted to sell the place, so ever since then I've been worried when renting other places0 -

I accept that doesn't do much to help your long-term concerns. Hopefully your LL will be happy to keep the tenancy going anyway0

If your landlord has a buy to let mortgage that is up for renewal in the next 12-17 months then yes they may well consider selling up as an extra £200 probably won't leave them with the return they need.
It sounds like you have a letting agent barrier so you can't ask your LL outright.
