How to access online service history?

Since 2017, many car manufacturers have gone to online service histories instead of stamped service book. I bought my car (2017 Golf) during the pandemic from a local independent whom I trust, so took their word that the online service history was in place. However, I have found it nigh on impossible to access the service history. VW website is not helpful, basically if not serviced at dealership then they can't help. The garage that sold me the car have added their records online and say I should be able to access through VW app. I can't. Can anyone help please? It seems just another way for dealerships to preserve their monopoly

My 19 plate Ford still has a stamped book.
I also have the printed VAT receipts as a record.

If the dealer you bought from can access the records they could print it out for you?  They are also best placed to help you work the App? Probably?

Thanks Rodders53. The dealer can indeed print the records for me but that seems to defeat the purpose of having records online!

Ford service books were only issued up to 2022 - everything from then is on line only, and for earlier models should also be available in your Ford account dependent on the dealer actually doing it - I had to chase them for the first service.

The problem is that "My VW", where that information is available in most countries, is not supported in the UK.
