Should the downpipe from the main house guttering - release the water via a spout on to the roof of my new extension or should it be carried across the roof to the extension guttering ?
As I see it - it should do the latter - not only to reduce the chance of leaks - but also to stop the spout from blocking up with leaves/moss and other roof debris / very difficult to clear...
Are there any rules on-line that I can quote to the builders ?
Has the extension a flat roof? If it has
how would you fix this extension to the downpipe  to the extension roof even a pitch roof would prove difficult  to secure a pipe to as you are concerned about leaks

No its a pitched tiled roof

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.
  • I wouldn't have the upper downpipe discharging into the extension guttering. The pipe would presumably at least partly obstruct the gutter at the point where it entered, making it more likely to block, and would discharge a large volume of water at a single point making the gutter more likely to overflow at that point and/or giving the potential for water splashing up under the roof coverings.

I'd either modify the guttering of the higher level roof so its downpipes run directly to ground level, or just allow the water to run across the extension roof. In practice this arrangement, though it may feel somehow "wrong", is probably unlikely to cause problems if the guttering on the extension is adequately sized.
  • Looking for a downpipe end piece / spray bar that to fit on to a standard round downpipe above an extension roof - it cannot have normal small holes which would become blocked with roof moss !!

You make them with a length of downpipe, and a hole saw. Block one end up.
