Post Office & Large Letters over 250g

A few weeks back I had a UK large letter over 250g which, when i took to the PO, the woman behind the counter said it had to go small parcel as it was over 250g (dimensionally it was fine). I was a bit confused by this so in the end i accepted it, but today when I went in with another large letter (which was under 250g this time) she accepted it OK, but whilst we were chatting she said again if it was over 250g, her console would class it as a small parcel. I'm not missing something here am I? They haven't deleted the LL service above 250g as far as i can tell online, unless LL's between 250-750g can only be bought online now? Or is it some kind of issue with the PO console/user error?

Large letters go up to 750g only after that do they have to go as a small parcel.

£2.70 at a post office - but I think RM prices for the larger size is £2.60

Yeah, I was just trying to confirm if something had changed, such as the LL limit to 750g had been stopped, or maybe only availabe online. Its obviously an issue at my local PO counter. I'll just do any LL 250g-750g online for the time being.

Never trust what the PO staff tell you about Royal Mail, they are generally ill informed and often rude if you disagree.
  • I noticed one of my eBay accounts has a new "dumbed down" postage section, instead of services name that I'm used to (Large letter, small parcel, medium parcel etc) I now see the categories: padded envelope, shoe box and cabin luggage
also in the "padded envelope" section it has weight selection categories instead of actually weighing them, and using 2nd class you can select up to 100g for £1.55 or up to 750g for £2.60. yet if you enter the weights manually you can get it for £2.30 if you enter under 250g
there used to be a 500g category too but thats gone
