I am stuck in a wheelchair and am having a downstairs bathroom constructed - it is at the stage that a slope is being added to allow accessible access - via an external door / lobby - threshold being 18 inches above ground level.
The builders / architect have made a big boo boo - In that the ground falls away at a greater rate than the 1:14 required for an accessible slope, meaning that the slope will never catch up with the ground level....
The architect took all height measurements at design stage using one of those theodolite things - but clearly failed to realise the implication of the threshold height.
Any (sensible) suggestions ?

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

    The ramp would need to
a)turn back on itself at some point.  Turn 180 degrees so it starts to run down as the ground comes up again towards the house.
    b) run 90 degrees to the house with a 'landing' at the top.

A picture will help but I'm surprised the people on site can't work it out.

It is their responsibility to come up with solutions. That means solutions that work for all users. A friend had this problem with an outside ramp, initially the suggestions only solved the problem for wheelchair users, leaving able bodied occupiers unable to access their care due to ramp positioning .

It is for them to come up with solutions. For it to meet compliance standards do not accetp that you will use assistance to get up the slope as this is meant to give you independence
