Hello People, Just wondering if anyone knows if - when you have finished your mortgage should the TMPP finish, I finished my mortgage back in 2019, and Ive just had a letter to say my policy would end in Nov, I rang them, and they just said do you want to cancel it early, I said yes, but they wouldnt give me an answer when I asked them why it had been still running for the last 4yrs after the mortgage had finished, I was under the impression it was to cover if I popped my clogs early than the mortgage had finished. Its just niggling me as to why it carried on. I also should go through my Direct Debits a bit more often...

No - it's up to you if you want cancel the policy or keep it going.

The benefits aren't reliant on you having an outstanding mortgage balance.

No.    It will finish either when you cancel it or at the policy end date.

Because the mortgage and the insurance are standalone from each other.   You don't even need a mortgage to have it.          Often people remortgage between lenders or overpay their mortgage or clear it early.   The life assurance company won't know that.   So, they stick to the policy terms when it was set up unless you tell them different.
