Memorandum of sale

When would the memorandum of sale usually be completed? The estate agent I am using said they will not send it until the chain is complete, however the estate agent of the property I am buying are chasing it up and can't work out why they will not send it.
I'm a bit confused by it all.

It's not a hugely important document, but it would be useful to have it. And I can't work out why they won't send it out either - seems like a very strange decision.
Do you have any details of your buyer, confirmation of what they have offered, their proceedability, etc? I wonder if your estate agent is trying to hide something from you?
You could try this tactic - ask the estate agent you're buying through to contact your estate agent, to ask if a memorandum of sale has been issued, as they'd like a copy.
Maybe your estate agent might feel they can "talk nonsense" to you and you won't realise, but they wouldn't get away with "talking nonsense" to another estate agent.

When they say they aren’t sending it until there’s a complete chain do they mean downwards or upwards? If it’s downwards that’s understandable. I can’t begin to tell you the amount of times that I’ve had a seller to provisionally accept an offer from someone, only to find out that further down the chain isn’t actually complete and someone hasn’t sold their propertyIf it’s upwards then I’m not sure why they won’t send it. It’s not hugely important to you, however it is to solicitors and they won’t start work on the file until they’ve received it. If this is the case then I’d contact your agent and say your solicitor is chasing it, there not really much worth in saying the agent above is chasing because they have no real need for it

We never received one when we bought our house. The EA just gave us the sellers' solicitor's details. We later wished we'd had one as it turned out our timescales and theirs were way different, and we'd have found that out if we'd received a MoS.
