Travel Insurance

Hi newbie here, have a problem such that I cannot buy travel insurance to go to Italy for 1 week because I have a hospital appointment to investigate an acid problem in 3 months time. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Go to an insurer who specialises in pre-existing conditions, you can get a list from https://www.biba.org.uk/

I suspect the issues isn't pre-existing conditions, it will be an undiagnosed condition which is under investigation.  Very few insurers will provide cover in that situation.  The OP may be better off speaking to an insurance broker.
  • The issue for the insurer is that you've got an undiagnosed condition, so they won't cover you as they can't quantify their possible risks.

Can you bring the appointment forward by paying privately for a consultation? Once you have a diagnosis you should be able to get cover.

They will, I've had cover whilst being in the same situation.  Also, BIBA is independent unlike a broker.

BIBA is the British Insurance Broker Association, the trade body for Brokers representing their collective interests. You can't think BIBA is independent if you think Brokers aren't independent.

Some brokers work with a small panel of insurers, others work with a large panel and will consider approaching non-panel insurers in certain cases. I dont think anyone is truly "whole of market" because there are vast sums of MGAs etc and it would never be efficient to approach a 1,000+ companies for each and every quote.
