I did try the Loop Energy app but they too came back saying they're unable to communicate with the meters
Loop etc. all get their data from your meters via the same comms hub. If it's not working for EON, it won't work for anyone else either.
Obviously not the same problem as the OP (though it would look the same to the home owner) - when I was with Eon they couldn't get my smart readings for about 6 months when I could see the data on the Bright app - so I thought it was worth trying :)

Didn't get fixed until I changed suppliers who could see it from day one and haven't had a problem since.

I'd bite the hands off Eon for the £150 compensation/goodwill.  I have 3 EDF smart meters that won't send readings.  They stopped working in the summer, like yours.  EDF said it's outwith their control (firmware) My advice would be to accept this payment and also accept that Eon (and EDF in my case) are relying on 3rd parties to get the information and the meters working as they should.  I am almost tempted to compalin now too.  Also along the same lines, my bezzie who is with ScottishPower, both his meters don't send readings either.  He has to do it manually.  The smart meters are a waste of time and money, I will say this till I am blue in the face.
  • The smart meters are Landis+ Gyr E470 Type 5424 for electric and for gas G470 672

Via the ombudsman web site I did accept EONs offer yesterday of £150 which was credited to the account very quickly after accepting it

About a year after I had the smart meters installed the display in house lost connection which EON eventually sorted after a couple of months - they said they managed to reboot it (assuming meter connection outside rather than inside the house as I'd already switched that off numeroud times), so I presumed this time would be the same issue.

Just time to wait for the fix, eventually, and continue the monthly manual meter readings to send to them.
