Hi I booked a holiday to the Dominican Republic I checked the inoculations list prior to booking and there was no mention of anti malarial tablets.
I am without spleen so unable to use anti malarial tablets.
However after further investigation there is malaria in the Dominican Republic all be it low risk, but because of my lack of spleen it makes me high risk.
I contacted the holiday company to try and cancel, they are looking into it but it looks like I'm going to have to pay £1700 to cancel
Where do I stand?
I did contact them within an hour of booking

Far as I can see there is absolutely no mention of malaria on the FCO page

Therefore, what is your worry? That you will catch it and your insurance would be invalidated?0 -
Appreciate this is from the CDC but its only areas of Dom Rep that has Maleria and they aren't close to the typical UK tourist areas

The holiday is booked for Punta Cana, the doctor said i should not go due to the risk0

In which case, get the doctor to put that in writing and use it to support a claim via your travel insurer.theblackninja1983 said:The holiday is booked for Punta Cana, the doctor said i should not go due to the risk0 -
Punta Cana is as far from Haiti as it’s pissibke to get, and anti-malarials are not recommended.0

Then get a letter confirming both that you cannot take anti-malaria tablets and your doctor advises against travel to Punta Cana and claim on your insurance, assuming you declared/didnt need to declare the removed spleen.theblackninja1983 said:The holiday is booked for Punta Cana, the doctor said i should not go due to the risk
As pointed out though, you are no where near the malaria area and if you look at the UK advice at https://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/caribbean/dominican-republic/dominican-republic-malaria-map then there the advice is no malaria tablets are required for where you are going.
Did you tell them there was malaria and then they made their assessment or did they lookup the malaria risk themselves?1
