Edf/Gne bill today
Options
Today I've received a bill for £839 from EDF stating that I've used that amount of gas and electric from the fourth of August 2021 to the 28th of September 2021, 56 days.
They are saying it's from a bill that I owed gne.
However when gne went bankrupt I was in credit of over a hundred pounds, it was automatically switched to EDF and I switched straight out of EDF to octopus who I'm still with. I tried and failed to get my credit paid back from gne as octopus said once the accounts were settled it should automatically be paid to them, and tbh I'd forgotten in the last two years!
Trouble is after all this time I have absolutely no way of proving that I was in credit with gne but there cannot be any way that I owe that amount of money for 56 days. my current gas and electricity is less than 120 pounds a month. HELP!

A credit balance is only accurate for a day provided a meter reading has been used to produce a bill. In this case, it will be the industry-agreed meter reading to open and close your SoLR and GNE accounts.
Given that switching doesn’t happen immediately, you will have had an account with the SoLR for a few days. GNE’s administrators will have provided the SoLR with a final bill, I am surprised that you have not been able to open a copy.I would ask EDF to provide you with what it has re the GNE Final Bill. If it is reluctant to do so, submit a Subject Access Request. Also, according to Companies House, Genie Energy is still trading - albeit, as a holding company. You could try to contact them for more information.
Unfortunately, as GNE no longer holds a Supply Licence, the Energy Ombudsman cannot legally get involved. Finally, I will say it before someone else suggests otherwise, BackBilling regulations will not apply.

PS Don't bother contacting EDF via Customer Service - you are wasting your/their time.
Go via complaintresolution@edfenergy.comNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1
