Contents insurance renewal quote - rant

Hi,
currently renting so only getting contents insurance.
Last year's price was £39.23 (just for illustration, the previous year I paid £48 - with a different company), this year's renewal quote from current, well-known provider £82.68 for identical cover (same address, same level of cover, made no claim etc). I realise that prices went up but quoting more than double of current cost for the same thing? Total rip off!
Went on a comparison site and found identical cover from the same insurer for £64.26, so the renewal quote is obviously over priced.
Needless to say I went with a different (also a well-known) company for £59.37 (and will get £34 cashback from Quidco on top).

It always will... companies preferences and strategies change over time and so therefore their prices do too. If you buy on price rather than quality you will always be cheapest with whoever is trying to grab market share in customers like you but its unsustainable in the long term to write business at a loss and so the price then has to increase.
Price comparison sites often have cut down versions of products and so shouldn't be surprising their quotes are lower. They attract people who buy on price not value hence you can sell low quality products as long as you are cheap enough.0
