Please excuse my ignorance, I know nothing about cars and need help figuring out what it is I am supposed to order. I went to the tyre place to get the rear tyres replaced but they said they couldn't do it because the NSR wheel is cracked and had several welds therefore needs replacing before they can fit the tyres. It was end of the day and all a bit rushed, so I couldn't ask him to clarify exactly what it is I need to order. He just find a wheel on Ebay. Google brings up alloy wheels, wheel discs and wheel bearings so which one is it? I need to fix this ASAP and need to order the wheel tonight. Can anyone help please?

Out of those three options, it's alloy wheels that you need.

However, especially in the light of not knowing that, you need to proceed with caution, rather than rushing, and ensure that you have exactly the right one, as many cars are sold with different wheel size options - it may even be better to buy a full set of 4/5.

As per Floyd above, pic of car and the wheels.  Also is it front or rear wheel?  Rears will be different width

Ebay would be my first port of call, but happy to help find the right wheel on ebay for you.

It's the Nearside Rear wheel BMW X5 2009 20". He didn't actually say alloy and showed me the round disc bit behind the alloy (after he took off the tyre) which is why I was confused. I am hoping to sell the car this weekend, have a very interested buyer coming so I don't really want to replace all 4 at this point as well
  • The round bit behind the wheel is the brake disc.

That style of wheel is called "Style 227" - and comes in two widths: 10" with 40mm offset for front, or 11" with 35mm for rear.

Take the wheel off, and look all over it, inside the spokes, on the inside of the rim - it'll tell you either the width or offset ("ET"). If it comes to it, just measure it... Remember that the width is actually inside the rim, the bit the tyre sits on, so it'll be a bit wider overall.

    No need.

The rear wheel is the wider wheel - which is what he needs.
