I have received a bill for £165 for 5 days worth of electricity! From EDF. Surely, this can’t be right?

You are not the only one. I've been pinging emails back and forth to EDF over the last few days trying to sort mine out. Today I finally made some progress, only because I knew exactly how much my monthly bills should be based on my own records and calculations. Their new billing system is a major step backwards in my opinion (I'm sure the usual forum suspect will be along shortly to defend it). They use smart meter readings one day and then use completely erroneous estimates on other days, which I don't understand as they should be receiving daily smart meter readings. I decided against posting about my problem furthermore after being called a conspiracy theorist but thought I'd just post this just to show you are not alone.brownbob2404 said:I have received a bill for £165 for 5 days worth of electricity! I looked on the site since new system started and had the same on estimates each month.very puzzling as was told they take readings straight from meter never need estimates ever again .🧐today I switched to half hourly readings for them as was on monthly before.but new system so guess it will take a while to sort the bugs out.time will tell I guess0

When accounts go over to Kraken the smart functionality is lost for about 5 days either side of the switch date. Sometimes an estimate is used & with the best will in the world, it’s not always accurate as its system generated. As long as the start & end reads are correct, & it’s within the same billing pricing, it shouldn’t make any difference if you’ve been charged 10 units for the first 20 days & 500 units for the last 10 days, the cost is exactly the same0

I wish they would invent a display that shows day and night readings for e7 users as it only shows total kw used and just hope the bills are right.impossible to get up and read the meter it’s so high up lol1

The problem is, it wasn't in my case which included a period of a very cheap E7 overnight rate from a 2 year fix. If I'd not intervened, I would have been £500 out of pocket. For example, in my latest case, there was a smart reading on one day and then an estimate for 2000 units less the following day, which it then billed me for. Then you let them know and they try to fix it and it then cancels all the charges, and then goes ahead and creates a new random estimate which spawns a new set of erroneous charges. I'm on my 4th bill now for the same period and we finally got it close to what it should be, although admittedly I'm still a few pounds out of pocket but can't be bothered to pursue it any further.Mobtr said:When accounts go over to Kraken the smart functionality is lost for about 5 days either side of the switch date.
