Exactly the reasons why i want to go private, the letting agencies stitch you up for fees, like when i left my last properly they inspected it and charged for £65 to say 'Yes it is fine'!! I also find it easier to talk to the landlord direct about any problems. Thanks!0 -
My landlady lives abroad, so we are quite independant of her. It's almost as if we are looking after the house for her as the rent is very cheap. I just googled 'housesitting' and lots of site came up - it may be worth looking for a housesitting position... just another idea!0

is there someone managing the contract on her behalf though while she is overseas. If not, ( and I hae experuience of this) the contract isnt legal - they absolutely HAVE to have nominated a manager of the property in the UK who can deal with maintanence problems BY LAW. this can however, be a frind or family memeber, just someone YOU can contract if things go pearshaped. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
We have an agreement with her that we sort out any maintenance and just knock the cost off our rent. We have had a few management issues (a lock wore away in the back door), we got it replaced ourselves and just knocked the cost of getting it fixed off our rent for than month, and emiled her in advance to the ok. The contract doesn't mention that she is abroad, or nominate anyone to do maintenance - that was just a written (email) agreement between us...0

They should only charge you if they have to get a cleaner....... The inspection is apart of the job..0 -

Not in this case. As part of the agreement i had to have the carpets professionally steam cleaned and treated because i had ONE cat in the house! They withheld 100 of the deposit incase a flea was spotted one month after a new tenant had taken over the property. Needless to say i got my money back from that, but £120 had to go on the carpets (i needed a certificate to prove it had been done!) The house was also in exceptional condition when left, even tops of door frames were dusted!
I really dont want to go through that hassle again and the expense, i will kept a property clean and in good order, even make subtle improvements if agreed with a LL first, i just dont want to be stung again by a greedy letting agency. Shame as the house was great!
I've put a wanted ad on the gumtree site and will wait and see what turns up!0 -

I can't believe that... I'd give them a call and ask for that back. Checking over the property is their job, it's what the LANDLORD pays them to do!!! Cheeky !!!!!!s...
You can subscribe to ads on Gumtree as well, that's how I found our place. Just click 'subscribe' in the property for rent section, then they'll be emailed straight to your inbox and you'll be the first in there.0
