Items not arrived - options

Options
I purchased 2 items different sellers.  Both  said would arrive by 3rd October. I checked yesterday and both still said 3rd October. So I messaged both sellers to ask for some update on delivery as both still just said despatched. One now says item is due to be delivered by 6th. So they changed the delivery. No reply to my email. Is this something I should worry about. If they had replied and said it's a bit delayed sorry hope it's ok I would have just had to suck it up. But I feel they have been a bit sneaky.
The other seller replied today and said please can you be patient. They gave me tracking info. But that said item returned to shipper.
Do I open item not received for either or both. Should I wait a day or so.

Thanks

It's still 3rd Oct so nothing is late yet.  I'd give it a day or two unless you paid for rush delivery.

Hard to say without knowing who you ordered from, or what service was chosen to deliver, but normally delivery dates are approximate unless a premium service such as Royal Mail Special Delivery have been paid for. I would give it a few more days before worrying if it was just a general order with standard postage/delivery.

They are both coming from China. So it's been nearly 3 weeks. I ordered previously from another seller and that never arrived either. So it that it's their fault but it's been over a month now and I need the items really soon. I will give them both to end of the week.

Assuming this is ebay then the ebay delivery estimates are just that 'estimates' and are wildly optimistic. For instance I've moaned time and time again on here that whilst I have a 2 working day despatch and 2nd class postage, ebay still estimate my packages arriving 3 days after a buyer purchases, even if they don't buy until late at night.  I even once had one estimated for delivery on the last day I was actually assumed to post it.

I personally would wait a day or two past the estimated delivery before I even considered worrying, then I would let the seller know and depending on their response, or any red flags would consider opening an INR - but certainly not before.

Also just for clarity, the seller can't change the estimated date , it is completely out of our control once item has bene purchased . Royal mail don't even pretend now that 1st and 2nd class are in any way guaranteed for 1 or 2 day delivery respectively. Many areas don't even get daily deliveries , I'm London and for a short period earlier this year I had missed delivery days as there wasn't enough personnel to actually do each round every day.

The only one I would have slight concerns about is the one that tracking shows as returned to sender, which courier was used and what actually shows when you track it- i.e. does it show as sent and then later as returning to sender?

As for ebay, you have 30 days from the last estimated date of delivery in which to open a claim, so you are well within those limits.

Coming from China does make a bit of a difference, for some reason all the posts previous to mine have only just loaded! It is not unusual for Far East deliveries to be severely delayed, stuck in customs or waiting for confirmation that all the tax and handling fees have been paid up front. I agree with your suggestion to wait until say Thursday/Friday and then open a case.
