You do seem to use a lot of electric.

As a comparison we are 2 adults in a 3 bed detached and use 2400kWh per year. That is two of us showering every day (electric shower), large American style fridge freezer in the kitchen and large upright freezer in the garage, washer dryer used 2-3 times a week, dishwasher and other general items such as LED TV, sound bar etc.

We don't have solar, yet and obviously no electric car although we do plug in the motorhome the day before we go out in it, usually every other weekend to cool down the fridge and make sure the batteries are fully charged.

Set yourself a challenge to reduce this !     Say 3,500

Look for the energy hungry -  lights, (switch them off!), old fridge, american fridge freezers.  This forum has seen multiple fridges and freezers, goldfish tanks, problems with pond pumps.

Do a lot of detective work, read those meters every day

  • Gosh the shower is probably a likely factor then. I don't think we could get rid of it though as that would be a bit smelly. Our hot water is only via an immersion heater which we never put on. Thanks everyone.

Does your gas not heat your water? What sort of gas heating do you have?

The electric shower must go !
Use water heated by the gas boiler for showering.  Just replace the electric shower with a power shower.  Only the pump would use electricity, and it wouldn't be very much.
  • Our hot water cost us the princely sum of 15p to heat up today (thankyou tracker electricity ASHP) so I did have a 15 minute shower and a good think about what I might achieve today lol

Usually in and out in 2-5 mins

I stay in the shower for ages when the Agile price goes negative, as long as what I'm getting paid for the leccy more than covers the extra water use.

10kW shower, three adults each taking a 10 minute shower daily: 1,825kWh per year.
Get rid of it and your usage would drop to 2,784kWh which is almost bang on the mythical 2,700kW average usage !
I dont think I have ever spent 5 mins in the shower in one go in my life, let alone 10.

Do a vast number of people take 10 minutes to get a shower?!
The average is eight minutes, so there would likely be a fairly large amount at ten minutes or greater. Your sub five minutes is well below average.

Somebody must have a very interesting job visiting different bathrooms to see how long people take showers for !

Yes we have an electric shower. I guess that could do it then? When I deduct Sept 22's electric reading from Sept 23's reading (smart meter) it's 4609. So don't know why they're saying 5084. Maybe they used another point in the year.

10 mins in a 9kW shower for ease of fag packet maths - uses 1.5kWh x 3 occupants = 4.5 kWh daily - 1600 kWh per year.  Other showers are 15-20%  more powerful. Some will take less time - others more.

How much of that in Ofgems TDCV - anyones guess.

No 2 households will have exactly the same use.

10% headroom is nothing for a DD estimate by some firms these days.

And as long as not in  debt many will allow you to drop DD payment by 10% on the online account to avoid paying it if still feel unrealistic.  Others like Octopus even further apparently as long as bill paid at the right time.
