Updating bills on MVDD with Kraken
I submitted my readings to EDF on 25 September for my actual usage bill. I am on the Kraken system. The bill appeared next day, agreed with my own calculations and DD was set to be taken on 11 October. On 1 October I took meter readings and input them on my account to make sure I got accurate charges for usage at the new rates. EDF system then updated my bill and moved the DD forward to collect the increased total on 17th October, rather than carry the extra 6 days forward to my next bill. This is fine by me - I am assuming from now on I can submit readings on the 1st of every month and will get billed for calendar months and this keeps things simple when the rates change again each quarter on the 1st of the month.
But I have previously read on here that Octopus customers can generate a bill at any time by inputting readings and now EDF are migrating to Kraken their customers (like me) can presumably do the same. If you are paying FDD this is helpful to keep track of your debit/credit position and whether you need to increase/decrease your DD amount. But if you are on MVDD it seems it is possible that you can keep shifting forward your payment date by submitting readings every few days and getting an amended bill which shifts the DD date forward in time. This would seem to leave the sytem open to people making sure they only make an actual payment at some self-selected future date. I can see the potential for shifting dates until you end up paying quarterly (or even less frequently) for actual consumption.
This updating would not allow you to generate bills that got paid weekly, because when you updated the reading the DD for the bill generated the week before the payment would not have yet been requested from your bank, as it takes 10 working days from date of bill. But with careful planning you could generate fortnightly bills and payments.
I just find this all very curious and wondered if anyone else on MVDD had noticed this. Or does someone "in the know" know that at some point Kraken would draw a line in the sand and stop updating?

I am not sure that Kraken is a ‘one size fits all’ technology platform given that it is now in use across the World. It must allow for a lot of individual customer customisation.
