Interest rate on savings

I know I sound really silly, but I wanted to ask a question about savings. On one of my accounts, it says that any money between 0-£5k gets an interest rate of 6% and anything £5-£10k gets 1.75%. Does this mean anything from 0-£5k would get 6% and anything over that gets or 1.75%, or if I say I would out in £8k I would only get 1.75% for the whole.lot? Thank you!

You get 6% on the first £5000 irrespective of how much you have in the account.0
