Other online auctions I’ve used successfully

EBAY gets plenty of coverage here and is for many what auctions are all about but I have used traditional land based auctions and their online versions with success for many years. Of course you win some and lose some but in my experience the returns can be huge. I’ll not name any here but checkout those in specialist fields such as music memorabilia, philately, railwayana for example, also the traditional local or “county” auctions.
They all went online or died through the pandemic but subsequently many are flourishing again. Their websites are very variable however in their sophistication and reliability plus the occasional auction house is a total shambles, but with careful reasearch it can be fun and profitable. Those using the platforms Saleroom.com and Easylive are the best administered and professional by and large but also generally more expensive in terms of fees.
I have had a few notable occasions when I’ve picked things up cheaply on ebay, items mis described or wrongly categorised or simply overlooked, then sold them on in the specialist auctions at a very significant profit.
