Google the following for 2023 .. " LIST OF BANKING AND SAVINGS BRANDS PROTECTED BY THE SAME FSCS COVERAGE COMPILED BY THE BANK OF ENGLAND AS AT 1 January 2023 " It comes in a PDF file.
Thanks, yes, that's the one, but (a) it's nine months out of date (they used to be published monthly) and (b) there doesn't seem to be any way of navigating to it other than via the URL itself, i.e. there's no route that I can find that takes you there from https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/prudential-regulation/authorisations/which-firms-does-the-pra-regulate or similar.
Tried to find an updated list from BOE website but struggled. There's an updated list 2nd MAY 2023 in PDF using Google again. From this link it appears there's only Manchester to Newcastle. ( No not HS2 as that's been scrapped  :) )

Fortunately the budget has allegedly been reallocated to a bunch of levelling up projects that we're supposed to forget had already been announced, or to put it another way, Northern Crock ;)
  • My advice would be to leave politics out of this forum as we all have different views & will disagree about almost everything.

No we don't, and no we won't ;)

You're right of course, it was just a cheap shot to tee up a topical bit of wordplay, rather than meaningful political commentary, but not seeking to take the thread off topic....

That would be a bit boring. In any case when discussing interest rates, speculating on future tax changes, economic growth etc it is  a bit difficult to avoid politics altogether.
Although it can take threads a bit off topic, like we have just done !

    Hi all
I'm doing my nut in trying to figure out how to work out if banks share a license....so the £85k fscs protection is shared. I've googled and keep getting sent to fscs website.

But I can't work it out

The FSCS document you're supposed to read before opening an account normally lists all the trading names sharing protection with the account in question. There are some edge cases, and it's possible the document is not up to date, but if neither of the relevant documents mentions the other I'd be happy depositing in both.

  • Thanks all.

I was looking at Halifax, Santander, Lloyds and NatWest

Just a thought but shouldn't the £85k limit track inflation in some way? Maybe not fully but partially. The level of protection must have reduced quite a bit in real terms in recent years. Surely it would make sense for it to be reviewed every 5 or 10 years.

I remember once that they actually reduced it then put it back up to 85K again.

I think that is because it was actually based on €euro 100K and it was changed after a sustained change in the exchange rate . Not 100% sure though.
