Peugeot 3008 - 30000 miles full service history engine failure

We bought a shiny black Peugeot 3008 Diesel in January for £16000. Full service history. It is September - we have a Peugeot garage telling us the engine needs replacing at a total cost of £11,000. Is there anything we can do?

What age is the car and why does the engine need replacing?
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • 2018 and we are about to have the engine stripped at a cost of £1800 to see if one of the pistons has failed.
  • Citizens advice says; You have legal rights for up to 6 years (5 years if you bought the car in Scotland), but only if you can show that you didn’t cause the fault. The longer you’ve had the car, the harder it will be to prove that the problem was there when the trader sold it to you. Plus, you’ll only have legal rights if the car is not‘of satisfactory quality’ - it should do what you’d expect for its age, mileage, price and type... so you would think there are some grounds as it being low milage/age you would not expect to be paying for a new engine?

Has it been caused by eg running it low on oil? Is it a known fault (look on the Peugeot forums)? If you have a full Peugeot service history, get on to Peugeot UK and also get the dealership on your side to lean on Peugeot.

I once had a Peugeot engine replaced out of warranty after premature failure of the cam belt and more recently a Volvo engine at 5 years, 30k miles due to known failure of the piston rings.
