Backdated Widowed Parents Allowance

Hi folks

My Dad recently applied for backdated Widowed Parents Allowance and just wondered if someone could help maybe clarify the calculation.

If the parent died before the 30 August 2018, is the value of the claim backdated to the date of death? 

Or,

Is the backdated payment only valued from 30 August 2018 until the child benefit eligibility criteria expires?

Hi, I applied off the back of the awareness campaign regarding backdated payments for cohabiting persons with child/ren. I was told I wasn't eligible as I wasn't receiving child benefit on the 30/08/2018. The helpline stated the MSE team didn't emphasise that condition. My partner died 25/03/2004.

PS They were quick to acknowledge and quick to reply with the We Cannot Pay You letter.
