Suitable Alternative Employment and other candidates.

Hi,
I hope this will be an easy question. If an employer is offering other roles to someone under threat of redundancy, and another employee who isn’t under threat of redundancy is interested in that role too, does it go to interview or does the person under threat get the role?
Thanks!

Unfortunately its one of those "it depends" situations.

If other person gets the job then their existing job is now vacant so that post may be "suitable alternative employment!

  • Thanks Andy,
that give me enough to go on.

My organisation says those at threat of redundancy must be interviewed if they meet the job’s criteria. A strong reason to then not appoint, is expected. In reality it’s like the Wild West and anything goes. If you are the person under threat, be loud about your interest. Your employer likely has a policy, so give it a read.
