Disk drive won't recognise blank dvds

Heylo
I have a Slimtype DVDRW SSM-85155 installed on my Acer Aspire laptop.
It used to read blank dvds just fine but now it doesn't recognise them at all. When I double click on the drive letter I get an "E: is not accessible, incorrect function" error.
I've tried uninstalling the driver and then restarting my computer so the driver is reinstalled but it still isn't working. Then I tried to update the driver, but no updates are available. I also went to make sure that recording was enabled on the drive but the recording tab isn't there.
I've tried both dvd-r and dvd+ disks and both of them won't work.
I've tried to search for my disk drive on google but all that returned were foreign websites.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been into "device manager" and there aren't any conflicts between hardware or anything. Slimtype is the DVD/CD drive but I also have a Hitachi disk drive. I'm not sure what the difference is as I only have one CDROM drive.
I was hoping to burn some photos onto DVD as they have more space than CDs.
Thank you.
Merry Christmas
xx
*Edit*
I managed to get it to work, finally.
I have to use a burning program now to burn photos to disk but at least I can burn them now and Windows recognises the disk.
It's always when I post for help that things suddenly start working again.lol.

How exactly did you get it to work again?
I have a similar problem but mine is the other way round burns DVD but won't recognize CD's...Just spins the disk and makes clicking sounds.0 -
I think this is a windows issue. Had a similar problem- could read cds or dvds, but could not write to cds using media player or burn files to cd using explorer.
In the end gave up looking for fix and found that Itunes player burnt audio cds just as well, and found "Ashampoo 6" on a free magazine DVD that burnt data CDs and DVDs. In fact I suspect any third party CD/DVD burner would do the trick0
