Energy Ombudsman agrees with supplier, I don't !

The original payment will have been automated, and I highly doubt there's a field in the database that says if it's a house/flat/garage/caravan (more likely simply that it's a domestic vs commercial account). i.e. just because it's noted on your account doesn't mean anyone made the connection between the two.knight5 said:knight5 said:pseudodox said:Perhaps whoever agreed a transfer from your garage to your house account failed to realise you were already getting £400 for said house. I do wonder what makes you think you deserve £800 of taxpayers money? I sincerely hope if you do challenge the Ombudsman decision it is upheld.

What kind of training are these 'Energy Specialists' given?
I appreciate your point of raising how this will be paid back and not being in debt which I now am and to have it impact my credit rating. This does need to be addressed.
Edit. The standing charge is credited to the account each month when I request that by email after giving the meter reading. So I don't pay standing charges. This was agreed by the supplier. The energy supplier did know I was receiving EBSS for the house. They had all the information on their database, so no misunderstanding on their part.
It's not taxpayers money, but paid from a windfall tax from the oil and gas giants! And not thinking I deserve it.
And when you phoned up the person probably just processed it as a request to transfer the credit, not querying if you should have had the credit in the first place - unless you specifically queried if your garage was eligible for the payment and someone confirmed it was after checking? And if so, that would be included in the £120 compensation you have been offered.
Re the "windfall tax": 2022-2023, HMRC received £2.6bn from the levy - Government spent £40 billion on various schemes (EBSS, cap, council tax rebate, etc) to protect UK families and businesses from energy costs...
Unlike some on this forum, I'm not strongly against the support - but I'm not sure how someone can reasonably say it's not tax payer money.I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.3 -
Hi,what tariff applies to your garage? Was it once a repair shop? You say you're now in debt, but the £400 is in your bank account, pay it back take the £120 and accept it was a mistake.1

The payment for the garage was never intended to be a bonus payment to your house account.
You thought you were onto a winner by requesting the transfer, it just hasn't turned out as you'd have liked
You haven't lost any money but gained £120 with the offer. That is very generous5 -
I think if you had got to receive the £400 for the garage then that would have been ok as it was a supply, the fact they took it back is also ok as realistically it was a blip in the system.
As someone who also benefitted from the postcode lottery that was the alternative fuel payment of £200 as the postcode here is a majority off gas and we are an all electric household it just goes to show their were many flaws in the system.
Some you win and some you lose but with the £120 you received £520 on total that's really a tick in the sun column imo.3 -
I can see your supplier revisiting it's kind decision to not charge you a standing charge over this. You have it good, paying nothing when arguably you should be and are £120 up. I'd stop poking.3

If each is a different account, then they may not be linked together on their screens. All depends on how their systems work. So that rep may not have realised.knight5 said:knight5 said:pseudodox said:Perhaps whoever agreed a transfer from your garage to your house account failed to realise you were already getting £400 for said house. Do you pay a standing charge on the garage?Life in the slow lane0 -

Of course it is taxpayer’s money. The Government levied a TAX and all taxes go into the Government coffers. It is then up to the Government to decide how taxes are spent.

We come back to the one basic truth re an Ombudsman Decision: if the complainant rejects the Decision, then the complaint is effectively cancelled and goodwill offers are rescinded.la531983 said:
This has already been covered. He/she is getting a goodwill credit every month for it, god knows how they have wangled that but continually moaning about this may see that goodwill revoked, so he/she needs to be careful what they wish for.born_again said:

To challenge an Interim Decision, the complainant has to offer additional evidence AND explain why it was not submitted as part of the original complaint.

Never been a repair shop, just a single garage.
My electricity account is in debit.
EBSS payments go monthly into that account, not into a bank account.0
