Ebay, cash on collection item. Seller - proof needed if no smartphone

Hi

I am selling a large item for local collection only and will hopefully be getting cash on collection.

I do not have a smartphone and use my desktop computer for ebaying.

I have read the ebay guideline on it:

My understanding of it is that the Buyer should get a Collection Code (QR Code or 6 digit code) in their messages.

If I don't use an App, I can ask the buyer to sign a copy of the eBay Order Form at the time of collection instead?

My questions are:

1.  Does the Buyer still get a QR Code or 6 Digit Code if they pay cash on collection?
2.  What is the Ebay Order Form? Where can I find it?  Or do they mean I need to print off
the Order details in my account, or print off an Invoice?
3.  Would a signed copy of this be sufficient as proof of collection?  Especially if the Buyer
does not have a 6 digit code to give me?
4.  Would I just 'mark as dispatched' in the order details once it has been collected?

Hopefully someone has gone through this and can advise me, please

Thank you

If your buyer chooses to pay cash then you don’t need any QR code. If they pay via managed payments then you can ask for the 6digit code rather than the QR code. If you want seller protection with eBay then getting bits of paper signed won’t be sufficient.

Your buyer will be urged to pay via managed payments , but either way your fees remain the same and you don’t make any saving by taking cash.

Do you mean they email it to me?
Where exactly would I type this in?

    Thank you @km1500
  • They e-mail it to the buyer.  Would be silly e-mailing it to the seller when the point is for it to be confirmation that the buyer has collected it.  Sellers could enter it and claim the buyer collected without ever having to see the buyer.

Hi @soolin, I always thought it was better to accept cash on collection items but that was back in the Paypal days when things were different.

Are you saying that I need to ask for payment via managed payments instead?  I DEFINITELY want to make sure that I get Seller Protection when doing this.

Also, Paypal is one of the payment options mentioned in my listings (managed payments). I never know HOW my
Buyers pay now that I am on managed payments. Is it still risky to let them pay by Paypal for collection items?

Is there an option somewhere to insert this 6 digit code when I get it?

Sorry for all the questions, hope you or someone else can point me in the right direction please as the item has now sold.

    Many thanks :)

Just looking at this on ebay community re. selling a large item (not mine):

the money back guarantee bit is scary. Obviously I don't want to rip off any buyers but I also don't want to risk them getting a refund AND keeping the item.  What is the best way of preventing this, please  (apart from not selling the item in the first place, obviously)

    Thanks

That thread was about having it delivered to a buyer.

Collection only means they can't do an INR and they can't realistically do a SNAD either as they've seen it already.  If it's not as described they should request a refund there and then, and not take it home with them.

As far as a seller is concerned now the only way to get paid is via managed payments or cash, it doesn't matter how a buyer funds his payment all you will see is that it comes via managed payments.
