Virgin media ‘scam’ letter

We have received a letter claiming to be from virgin media, re arrears on account. We have no virgin accounts and are worried by this. The letter looks real with logo & signed by Rachel Barrass, customer service Director. What should we do? Anyone else had this?

It could be a scam. It could be a fraudster has set up an account using your name and address. What does the letter ask you to do?
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

If you have no VM accounts then no need to worry.

You could phone them to clarify if you like.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

If you do phone them, don't use the number on the letter. Google VM's contact number.

It’s stating we are have failed to make 2 payments and asking us to pay up by contacting them. We’ve never ever had a virgin media account.

I really wouldn't bother ringing a company up to enquire about arrears on an account you have never had with them ever, just bin the letter and get on with your day.

Having attempted to phone Virgin before, I'd probably just double check my credit report at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/creditclub/ - if you somehow have an account with Virgin that's in arrears, it'll be there. If not, bin and forget.

My husband has also received a letter stating the same when I realised the account was in my name I googled the number on the letter and the result was that it was a potential scam so we threw the letter away.
We have now received a second letter looks very realistic with information about FCA and how to deal with debt. I phoned virgin who assured us that there was no debt on our account. I found the number myself I didn’t phone the number on the letter.
