OP,other than the perceived bribe,do you have any specific reason for not having them?,I've no feeling either way really, just nosy.
Realistically refusals only going to remain an option for so long,so why not potentially benefit from it,in the meantime and going forward,"bribe" or not?.
To be blunt OP,at some point you'll have to,like everyone else, wether you,or they like it or not.

    Why wouldn't you?
Admittedly the bribe is tempting but some of us are just against smart meters.
Getting paid to have something installed that will save you money? This is a money saving site after all and I can see from your history you like to get your money saving on (so to speak)

You obviously have a computer and mobile phone to do all the money saving surveys/cashback sites which already collect your data endlessly.

So intrigued, what is it you have against smart meters?

Yes I suppose you are right in what you say. I probably will have Smart Meters installed, also I shall opt  to plant a tree. I shall be looking at switching after the installation, "Fuse" interests me as being a very interesting plan from my phone. I suppose my attitude against Smart Meters as been all the negative posts I have read on here.

As smart meters can now be fitted without the homeowner’s permission when meters reach the end of their certified lives,  then one might argue that, like taxes and death, smart meters are now a given.

People tend not to post to say "I had smart meters installed last year and they're fine. I don't even have to read them any longer."
Then you get the more attractive tariffs as well, so you'll have the chance to pay less for your utilities than with non-smart meters.
My only problem with a meter change was many years ago when my electricity meter was changed for another (non-smart) one and the old reading didn't get passed through to my account with the supplier. It was sorted out when they realised I couldn't have used £5,000 worth of electricity in one day. :)

Kinda defeats the whole MSE ethos 🤷‍♀️

  • Funny how nothing changed & Octopus can read it.
Not really if the problem was the central register - switching suppliers would have prompted an update, which might have solved the problem.

What would be 'funny' is if you switched back and Eon had the same problem again.

Great. So all the people who refused to have one , for various tin foil hat reasons, will now benefit to the tune of a hundred pounds. Whereas the people who already have one get nothing.
I've had my smart meter less than 6 months and I've already saved far more than £100 by being able to access TOU tariffs.
Really? Less than 6 months, over the summer you've saved over £100 on a TOU tariff?
What tariff is that? How have you calculated the saving?
