Moving to new property
Hi All,
Just moved to new property. I informed the current gas provider Scottish Power that I was moving in. The previous householder was on a fixed contract. They are now saying that I cannot switch providers without paying a £100 exit fee. Can this be right when I haven't signed up for the fixed plan and only now do they tell me which tariff/plan I'm on?
Thanks

No it is not right unless you unwittingly agreed to go onto a fixed tariff when you called. You were on a deemed variable contract from the day that you became responsible for the property. I would use SP’s complaints procedure to get this resolved. Make your complaint in writing.0

Did they put the account in your name and ask for a opening read? Or did they somehow get the impression you were just a new roommate/ tenant and adding your name?
You probably need to send proof, the contract you have.0
