E: 11/10 Win a tasting for two at Dartington’s Georgian Wine Festival, plus £120 worth of wine!
France, New Zealand, South Africa and Germany – all places that grow some of Muddy’s favourite wines. But did you know the country of Georgia, nestled in the Caucasus mountains, known as The Cradle of Wine, has a tradition of wine-making dating back 8000 years? News to me too! I’m in the know because I’ve just found out that Dartington Estate, near Totnes, is hosting A Georgian Wine Festival on 13-15 October.
The brand-new festival, curated by Masters of Wine Sarah Abbott and Justin Howard-Sneyd, is aiming to be a delicious introduction to Georgian wines for anyone who loves to learn about growing, making and tasting vino. To celebrate, we have two free tickets to their walkaround tasting to give to one lucky wine lover, plus £120 worth of Georgian wine, courtesy of Swirl Wine Group!
Blending Georgian wine and culture, the festival offers the chance to explore grape varieties, learn from experts and join traditional qvevri (earthenware vessels used to store wine, above) wine tastings led by Georgian winemakers. Visitors can also experience something called the Supra, a communal feast of traditional Georgian cuisine, including the famous cheesy bread staple served with every meal, called Kachapuri. An all-round cultural experience brought to life here in Devon.
Here’s what’s on:
- Masterclass Tasting – With Sarah Abbott and Justin Howard-Sneyd, Sat/Sun 10.30am-12pm, £45
- Polyphonic Singing Workshop, Sat/Sun 10.30am-12pm, £10
- Walkaround Wine Tasting of 100 wines, Sat/Sun 12-3pm, £25
- Grand Supra Feast, Sat night only 7.30pm, £125
- Full Weekend Ticket, £215
