EDF Energy will cut bills by £30 for some 260,000 of its customers who get the Government's Warm Home Discount this winter. But with a typical home paying £2,000 a year for energy, the one-off £30 discount is 'not a game-changer', says MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) founder Martin Lewis.

Isnt it likely that those getting the Warm Home Discount are not going to be near the "typical" cost but lower?
Plus, they already get £150 off their bills and this is a further amount.

... subsidised by me, one of the unofficial poor on state pension with savings for old age care, so no benefits/credits ... oh or WHD.

Octopus gave a credit near the WHD amount last year.

The WHD is ostenstibly targeted at people claiming certain benefits who are living in properties that intrinsically require higher energy usage to heat (size is one factor, so e.g. very few in small flats are likely to qualify).  So, in theory, not necessarily.

I have applied for the Warm Home Discount Broader Group (Scotland) and hope to be eligible with my disability benefit and low income - but not receiving any means tested benefits.  I manage by keeping my heating as low as possible but would love to have it on more when it is cold.

I'll be very pleased if I recieve £150 towards fuel costs this winter.  Is the credit Octopus gave near the WHD last winter something different from the Warm Home Discount Broader Group, Spoonie_Turtle?

I'm in England and part of Core Group 2 last year (we'll see if still this year, as our new EPC says our house is smaller than all the previous EPCs said!)

It was an extra credit that said it was paid to all WHD recipients.  I didn't know anything about it until it appeared in our account!  Didn't hear anything else either, maybe they just didn't publicise it or I wasn't looking in the right places.
