British Gas want my dd to go from £75 a month to £520!!
Just got my latest bill, a couple of months ago I was in credit by £111, now I am in credit by £190. I pay £75 per month and never use more than that. They estimate my annual useage to be just under £700. And yet they want to put my direct debit up to just over £520!
what are the odds this is going to be a pain to get sorted?

Looks like a typo it should be nearer £522

Ask them to justify it. presumably the readings are actual and not estimates so just keep saying no until they come to a sensible answer.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Get a octopus referral code for that £50 credit when you switch.1

BG always wants a D/D at least twice as much as is necessary, but this story takes the biscuit. Tell 'em to push off.

And spend some of that savings on solar power to get £0 bills annually.1

Just ring them up, they should admit it’s an error and put it down. They did for me in a similar situation (not as much).1

I had similar from Octopus last week. A suggestion of £453 from £100
I set it to £250 as I'll probably use that across winter and I'll drop it again next spring.Officially in a clique of idiots1 -
The readings are via a Smart meter so are actual and not estimates. Clearly something has gone wrong somewhere as their own estimates are that I should only use around £50 a month! Also, my usage doesn't really vary according to season so it's not like there is a big spike expected in Winter. Hopefully will be able to get through quickly and sort it, otherwise I'll just cancel the direct debit and look elsewhere.Mortgage free!
