I agree with the above. My parent had a terminal diagnosis. The sequence of events as described doesn’t align to my own experience. Out of interest, how did patient x get access to their scan, in order to send it to a 3rd party?

You can certainly get any data an NHS trust holds on you with a subject access request if the consultant won't simply give it to you.  I have done it, I got two CDs full of NMR (or MRI if the word 'nuclear' scares you) scans of my brain posted to me, which showed an absolute mass of lesions caused by MS.

Interesting. I recently paid for a private consultation. The NHS despite making the referral, did not supply copies of results. Nuclear does not scare me lol, I’m an engineer. Thanks for sharing

If going private - then the provider will usually supply copies of results and scans etc

part of the reason is that typically private providers don't have access to the same IT systems that the NHS does so its easier for the patients to have hard copies of everything to take with them to wherever and whoever is providing care

just to add - it's been years since I have heard the term NMR (from a patient viewpoint) used - MRI is now pretty much the norm
  • Thank you all

It is clear that the first port of call is a complaint to the GP, which is now what we will do.  We will also complain to the NHS trust and as advised the relevant MP.  I honestly don't understand why somebody would question our sequence or version of events.  It is a fact that a 4-week radiotherapy course starts next week and the words used were 'completely cured'.

This is exactly how we understand the events and they are based on facts.  I have nothing else to add now and offer our thanks and gratitude to those who sympathise with the patient and have tried to offer some advice.

IF THERE IS A MODERATOR READING THIS PLEASE CAN YOU NOW REMOVE THIS POST.  WE ARE VERY SATISFIED WITH THE ANSWERS CONTAINED HEREIN.

Please do t take my comments as being unsympathetic- far from it.

Having been on both sides of medical and diagnostic conversations however, I am very conscious that what patients and relatives thought was said does not always resemble what was actually said.

I am also quite knowledgeable in this field and have found that other countries quite often have different approaches towards different treatment regiemes (especially when insurance is involved)

Would like to have more info and engage with you further on the subject, but that would be breaking forum rules

Apologies again if my responses have caused any offence or misunderstanding

It's also not your head being stuck in the machine so not sure why it'd possibly scare anyone else.

Having recently been referred for diagnosis of what is likely to be a chronic condition the GP letter gave results but simply the radiologists statement on the x-ray rather than a copy of it. Similarly the recent blood tests I can access the results of from the NHS App which were broader than those referred to in the letter. Will ultimately see the consultant under PMI for diagnosis and then be seen in the same doctor's NHS clinic for ongoing management but had an appointment, 2 MRIs and a followup booked within a fortnight of the referral whereas my initial NHS appointment is next year.

    Thank you all

Without any personal comment, the reality is people post fake stories, half truths etc. There are forum members that spend a lot of time and effort trying to help others and aren't impressed after investing their time they find out it was a waste as critical information was withheld/changed or it was just a bored kid in school holidays - again not saying any of these are the case here.

There are elements of the story that are peculiar and in part it could be paraphrasing because its emotional for you and so you are trying to present it in the worst light possible but those elements may make some question.

Posts are not deleted because the question has been answered, they are left here so that others in a similar situation can get the help they need and also so if the poster needs to come back for further advice they can add to the existing thread rather than repeating themselves (or worse still, not giving all the background a second time)
