Process of changing suppliers, I think I've made a mistake
Hi. I recently moved suppliers from EDF to So Energy. The process was completed at the beginning of last week. Seeing as I'm now paying SE and because I am heavily in credit with EDF (~£700's worth) I cancelled my direct debit because I didn't think it was needed anymore and didn't want two direct debits to energy suppliers running at the same time. Last night I received an auto-generated email from EDF complaining about it, and, having done some reading, it appears that I shouldn't have done it. What happens now?

EDF may generate the final bill using the slightly higher non-DD rates.Just tell EDF you want to pay by DD and give them your bank details.0

OK. Thanks.0

Yes - relax, I did something similar, I contacted EDF and re-established the DD and they were fine with it. Just tell them it was a mistake and I can't imagine they'll have any issue at all.

Hi,easier and quicker to refund back to bank account.0

They're refusing to do anything. All they've told me is that the DD gets cancelled automatically when I change supplier, and after the final they setup an installment plan to pay the outstanding balance. Why, when I'm hundreds in credit and we're only talking about a month's worth of energy I have absolutely no idea0

because I am heavily in credit with EDF (~£700's worth)If you are on Kraken with EDF then the credit balance would be fairly accurate. If you are on the old billing method then the credit balances would be wrong. The old EDF would show your direct debits paid between billing points but it would not deduct your usage until a bill was generated. So, it would give you a false credit position would you could be in negative. They're refusing to do anything. All they've told me is that the DD gets cancelled automatically when I change supplier, and after the final they setup an installment plan to pay the outstanding balance. Why, when I'm hundreds in credit and we're only talking about a month's worth of energy I have absolutely no ideaIs it still showing the same credit balance after the final bill has been generated or is this before the final bill?
Are you on Kraken (account starts A-) or the old billing method (6 monthly)?

You have to remember that you are dealing with EDF, who (although I am not calling inept) are a good comparison to ineptness personified.
I also made a similar error when I moved in July. I got charged a few days at the pay on demand rate. Probably cost me a couple of pounds extra. A final bill was issued within 2 days of leaving, but they messed up the refund of my balance. If they do the same to you, leave it 10 working days (from receipt of final bill) before you complain. For each period of 10 working days they do not refund you, you are entitled to £30 compensation.
I left it 20 working days and got an extra £60 out of them.

I'm on the 6th monthly. My last bill was 1st Jully - 12th August. The one I'm waiting for is 13 August - 17th September, and (for some reason) 18th September - 18th of September. I'm going by what it says on their websitedunstonh said:because I am heavily in credit with EDF (~£700's worth)If you are on Kraken with EDF then the credit balance would be fairly accurate. Are you sure you're on 6-monthly? Those dates are more like monthly and the 18th Sept-18th Sept sounds Kraken-y to me.Bungle73 said:

Well my bills have always been 6 monthly. I had one from December to June, then the ones I've already mentioned.
They said it would be fine and if I am due a refund I'll get a cheque.
