Very annoyed, advice please

Options

I ordered an item on ebay on friday 15th sept and the tracking said it was on it's way and delivery was expected by wednesday 20th. Still not arrived monday 25th I raised a INR and contacted seller (via ebay) to ask if they could chase it up. The seller asked if I could wait a few more days.

Yesterday (tuesday 26th) the parcel was delivered to a neighbouring house that happens to be a holiday home. Luckily another neighbour saw the package on the doorstep and contacted the house owner who then contacted me and I was able to retrieve it.

When I opened the package the item was not what I ordered as it was not an immediately useable item and would need modification to make it useable.

And now to the question; as I opened an INR am I able to open a NAD and request a return and refund?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes AFAIK you should be able to close the INR and then open a return with item not as described for the reason.

Perhaps wait for @soolin to clarify that or have a quick cHat with eBay via the help pages to confirm. :)

  • Thank you to you both
  • It would seem that I cannot open an NAD as I opened a INR.  I tried to open NAD prior to closing INR and was informed by ebay asnot able to, then closed INR and tried to open NAD, ditto.  So what do I do now?
  • "It looks like you closed this case before asking us to step in. As we didn't take any action, there is no decision to appeal. When you close a request or a case, it's not possible to reopen it.

You should contact the seller and see if you can work things out with them. In future, you should make sure that any issues you have with an order are fully resolved before you close a request or case."

    What a load of B******s

I am now going to contact the seller

OP are you following steps 3 & 4 the other poster (or perhaps I should say chatbot) mentioned?

Find the Order: Locate the order for the item in question, which should be the one that was delivered to your neighbour's house.
Select "Return Item": Next to the item in your purchase history, you should see an option to "Return Item." Click on it.

If this isn't working I'd chat with eBay and say you need to open a return request for an item not as described but are unable to do so.

  • I have tried to open a return, but the fact that I opened an INR seems to mean that I cannot ask for a return, INR open or closed.
I have contacted the seller who has suggested that I might like a 50%  refund and keep the item.  That would mean that I would be paying the full price for an item that I do not want - so that is not going to happen.
  • You need to contact eBay directly to explain what's happened and see what they can do for you.
  • I have contacted the seller to refuse their offer of 50% refund and they have replied

"Hi,thanks for contacting us and sorry to tell we are in holiday now, so we can't solove your problem, we will back to work on 4th Oct, could you contact us on that time? Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Will this have any impact on the time scale for contacting ebay?

Just to add having looked at their feedback - one buyer has the same wrong item, and the seller seems to have a record of late posting.  This makes me think that it is on purpose so that INRs are opened and therefore buyers that are unsatisfied are unable to open NADs.  I will be pointing this out to ebay when I contact them

I can only echo the suggestions above, you need to talk to eBay, so phone them.
