Moving energy supplier, final bill metre reading?

Moving electric supply from Scottish Power to Octopus energy.

Signed up Sunday provided reading to Octopus who handle everything I believe but also sent a reading to SP who generated a bill online.
Now SP keep texting asking for a final reading so they can generate an accurate final bill for two days energy!?
I presumed as the process only takes three days SP would accept the read from Sunday or estimate two days use maybe but had thought they would agree with the read Octopus got from me upon sign up? What’s the point of two readings which will be slightly different they can only use one for the handover?
So far I’ve ignored SP so as not to make the situation confusing, after all Octopus handle everything don’t they and give SP the read from two days ago or a few kWh more for two days use?

Correct. Octopus will provide your meter reading to the Mysterious Third Party who will work their magic and then tell Octopus and SP what reading to use for handover.

Judging by all the complaints on the forum and elsewhere, Scottish Power seldom get anything right...

Why do people always default to conspiracy rather than c**k up as a reason. No one has mentioned that the OP may have confused the system by sending SP a meter reading when there was absolutely no need to do so.
