Natwest - Can't approve payment because I no longer have the app.

Hello folks,
Need some help, recently my mobile phone broke and I needed to send it back for a refund. Since then I've been without a phone and I'm still looking for the right one. But I've run into an issue when I've wanted to make a payment online. Natwest asks me to approve the payment via the app which I used to do when I had my phone but of course, I can't do that anymore (or at least until I can afford a new phone) so I'm stuck. I've tried doing some research but the Natwest help page seems pretty useless and haven't come across any solutions when googling. I tried to see if it was possible to approve the payment via the main website but there's nothing I could see. I'm still looking for a solution, but if anyone else has had this issue I would appreciate some advice.
Thanks in advance.

Do you have a tablet? The app will run on one of those as well.SaitenMar said:Hello folks,

So you have no phone at all right now? Or just a basic one?
Can't say with NW but with Barclays you can change the option from being the app to having a code texted to you.
Alternatively get a very cheap Android phone to use until you've found your dream phone/can afford the dream phone. With how critical phones are becoming to daily life it's sensible to have a backup even if its a really basic smart phone.0 -
"What if I don't have the app on my phone? If you don't use the app, you'll continue to approve transactions with a One Time passcode. Just make sure your contact details are up-to-date through online banking or by calling the number on the back of your card."

They will send you a card reader if you ask them. Unfortunately they don't seem to do the text authorization. It is app or reader.0

Card readers tend to be interchangeable so if you have one from another bank they typically will work (some say they always should work but I am sure I had one pairing that didn't a long time ago)alternate said:They will send you a card reader if you ask them.2 -
I don't know if they have changed, but Natwest didn't use to let you use a card reader until three days after they had sent you one, to give it time to arrive.DullGreyGuy said:

I've been using a NW for years even though I bank with Barclays. With HSBC Business you can pick one up in branch but it's not a card reader (acts like one in every sense other than the lack of inserting a card).phillw said:

Havent used NW for day to day banking in 15 years0 -
Call them up and once passed security, they'll remove the app from your profile.
It will then default to text or the card reader only.0 -
Though the readers work with cards from more than the issuing bank, I found that those in the NatWest group only allow the use of a card reader if the individual bank has sent one. Thus Ulster Bank wouldn't allow the card reader option unless they had sent me a reader.DullGreyGuy said:

Yes, this is a very annoying thing that Natwest Group do, I think you have to wait until the morning after the device was sent before it'll let you 'activate'.
