Problem with local garage
I am having an issue with our local garage, and not sure where I stand. I was asked to bring a car in last Tuesday for necessary work for which they had ordered parts but they have still not carried out the repairs. I have spoken to them on the phone twice but all I got was an explanation that they had to wait to get a garage lift free for the necessary hours required for the work. But if this latter is the case then why ask us to bring in the vehicle on a particular day?
Should I simply tell them that if they are not going to carry out the work by (say) Friday then I will be taking back the vehicle and going elsewhere? And could they require me to pay for the parts they have ordered?

I'd tell them you need the car back by Friday, that's plenty of time as they've had it a week. You could offer to pay for the parts so you could take them elsewhere to be fitted. There shouldn't be any need to pay for parts though if they are still unused and/or boxed, as the garage should be able to return them to their supplier.1
