No contact unless he pays more - advice please

We have a child with a disability in our family too. He is very confused about not being able to see his step siblings and it is very hard to explain it to him. He finds it hard to adapt to change and all this on/off contact causes him so much upset. I really don't understand the children's mother, as a mum myself I can't bear to see my children hurt or upset, she is not only playing with her children's emotions by using contact as a weapon to demand additional money, but she tells them the most disgusting and hurtful things about him just to get at him. I could almost understand if they had only just split up, but she ended the relationship years ago and she remarried long before my husband did. I don't know why she can't just get on with her life and stop being so vindictive. We are so worried about the damage this is doing to children, but all we can do is to try our best to ensure that our actions don't make things worse, and whatever our private thought we never ever say anything negative to the children about their mum. In our case, I don't think there is much hope of improvement until the children are grown up, but we live in hope. I hope very much that your situation improves soon.
