Virgin don't build FTTP for Openreach, if Virgin are building, then you will have the option of getting service from them and them only.
  • very strange, as virgin is nowhere in sight where i live, if there going to be putting a complete new network down underground from the estate that wont be cheap and bt have the complete area in there sales will be hard to move people away i cant see how this can be profitable for a long way off

We've had two operators dig up the footpaths around here to put in completely new networks, I too wonder if it makes financial sense but I assume they've done their homework.

The fact that there is already a lot of financial distress with many of these operations , with redundancies etc and mergers / takeovers, perhaps they didn’t do their homework at all

Cable & Wireless originally installed the cabling that Virgin now use (via a series of takeovers & mergers). We had the choice of dialup then ADSL or Virgin for many years. CityFibre have just finished installing their cabling & infrastructure in the neighbourhood - For those that want high speed broadband, they will have signed up to Virgin, and I suspect many will stay. The mainstream suppliers like BT, Sky, & TalkTalk are all charging comparable prices to Virgin, but are not offering super fast speeds.
One wonders if CityFibre have done their sums, as I don't see a huge uptake using their cabling. But I suppose they got a good chunk of government money to cover the upfront cost. So maybe the sums do add up for them.
