Single occupancy discount for unmarried couple
Aekei
We are an unmarried couple jointly owning two homes in which we spend roughly a 2:1 to 1:1 ratio of our time in any given year. My understanding is that we can designate a separate home as our main residence for CGT purposes should we decide to sell one. I also wanted to understand if it is possible to ask for single occupancy discount on both properties assuming that all personal mail etc will be sent to separate addresses respectively?

You will need to convince your local council that you live separately in order to get the 25% council tax discount on each property. There are no fixed rules on this. Each case is looked at on its own merits.
I would have thought that was do-able
Edit: make sure you are each on the electoral roll at the relevant property. There's nothing like using Council evidence to prove something to the council.1 -
